Born in Kuta, Badung, Jro Mangku I Made Supatra Karang, DAN 7, has served as the Chairman of the Bali INKAI Black Belt Council (MSH) since 2005. Under his leadership, INKAI Bali achieved remarkable success, securing 10 gold medals at the INKAI National Championship.
One of Jro Made Karang’s notable achievements is initiating the Kuta Karnival, an event designed to revive Bali’s tourism post-Bali Bombing I. This event, created alongside other figures such as Nyoman Graha Wicaksana, Made Rudika, Kt Nugra, and Morgan Made Suartha, later evolved into an annual celebration, attracting local and international tourists and reviving Kuta after both the bombings and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jro Made Karang also played a key role in supporting MSMEs and Bali’s tourism revival during the 2022 celebrations of MIO Bali’s anniversary and Bupda Kuta. He provided advice and inspiration to rebuild public trust post-pandemic, fostering recovery through exhibitions and cultural performances that encouraged community participation and revitalized the tourism sector.
His contributions extend to the foreign exchange trade in Bali. As a key figure in APVA (Indonesian Foreign Exchange Trade Association), Jro Made Karang helped shape the organization into a professional entity that supports the needs of tourists and entrepreneurs requiring foreign currency.
Under his guidance, APVA, which began with its revival meeting 20 years ago in Bali, has grown into a leading professional association. Despite being a competitive industry, Jro Made Karang emphasized the importance of healthy competition and adherence to regulations, fostering a sense of family among its members.
As Chairman of the Advisory Board for both BPP APVA Indonesia and BPD APVA Bali, Jro Made Karang, alongside other leaders, revitalized the national organization, which is now 20 years strong and thriving under the leadership of Datuk Amat Tantoso.
Jro Made Supatra Karang continues to be an inspiration, not only for the people of Kuta but for the entire Balinese community, through his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication.
